This hand-painted 54 mm miniature depicts Prince Józef Poniatowski (1763–1813), a distinguished Polish noble and Marshal of France during the Napoleonic Wars. Poniatowski commanded the Polish Vistula Legion and led Polish troops with honor and loyalty both to Poland and to Napoleon.

He is remembered for:

  • Commanding Polish forces at Raszyn, Leipzig, and throughout the 1809 campaign

  • Becoming the only foreigner ever awarded the rank of Marshal of France

  • His death in battle, sword in hand, crossing the Elster River at Leipzig — a symbol of heroic loyalty.
